The following letter was released on October 18, 2017 by the Superintendent of Schools.
Dear Parents,
On Thursday, Oct. 12, the Brewster Central School District was informed about an alleged inappropriate relationship between a staff member and a highschool student. Student safety is of paramount importance and we find these allegations deeply troubling. The administration immediately contacted law enforcement, which began an investigation. At this time, the matter is still being investigated by law enforcement. While the investigation is pending, the staff member will not have any contact with students. The District has arranged for school counselors to be available to support students should the need arise. Additionally, in conjunction with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, the District has established a 24 hour hotline for anyone who has information to share with respect to this matter. The 24 hour hotline number is 845-808-4377.
Sincerely,
Valerie Henning-Piedmonte, Ed.D.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Each of our schools will initiate “Lockout” procedures to protect our students and staff from exposure to potential media coverage. A “Lockout” is used to secure school buildings and grounds during incidents that pose an imminent concern outside of the school.
We notified each school, cancelled outdoor physical education classes and recess to be cautious. Before children can return to outside activities, our School Resource Officers will monitor the grounds to make sure that they are safe.
Sincerely,
Valerie Henning-Piedmonte
