Outdoor Adventures Offered at the Brookfield Senior Center

Outdoor Adventures

Vitality is about approaching life with excitement and energy and zest. Walking and hiking are great forms of exercise that can enhance our vitality. These programs are self-paced activities supporting independence, discovery, and socializing skills while improving cardiovascular and an increased sense of well-being.

Hike and Learn:

Wednesday, August 5th at 9:30am

Join us for a hike at the newly renovated Cadigan Park hosted by FirstSelectman Bill Tinsley. We will hike the new relatively flat ¼ mile trail around the park. The total length of the hike will be approximately one mile. Pack a swim suit and a lunch to enjoy: we will have a picnic and a swim at the Town Park across the street. We meet inside the Senior Center, sign in and carpool to our chosen trail. Please sign up so we know who to expect!

Tuesday Trekkers:

Tuesday, August 11 at 8:30am
(Rain date, Tuesday, August 25)
This group is led by outdoor enthusiasts Andrea White and Elaine Gregory.Andrea is a Master Gardener and Elaine is a longtime Girl Scout, birder and photographer. They look forward to sharing their love for the outdoors with you. We will meet at the Senior Center at 8:30am. Let's take a hike on the Appalachian Trail starting at Bull's Bridge in Kent, CT. This a beautiful, well-travelled and low elevation section of the AT along the Housatonic River. We will hike to where Tenmile River joins the Housatonic, and we'll find shelters used by backpackers. Optional: For those who are interested, we can go into Kent for lunch and/or ice cream. Please sign up at the Senior Center. Don't forget to bring water, hats, sunscreen and bug repellent.

Walk and Talk:

Wednesday, August 5, 12, 19and 26 at 1:00pm

This is a gentle walking group appropriate for every level. Even if you have a cane or a walker, you can ease into movement while socializing with your friends. This group is led by the dynamic duo of Marianne Seeber, Pathways Counseling of CT and Cassie Dunn, personal trainer. This walking program will help you to incorporate walking into your daily life. You can start at your own pace and walk as far as you are comfortable. We will be walking on the nearby sidewalks on flat ground so everyone should be comfortable joining us.
