WCSU to host Holistic and Integrative Health Initiatives Panel Discussion

DANBURY, CONN. – The Western Connecticut State University Institute for Holistic Health Studies (IHHS) will host “Holistic and  Integrative Health Initiatives: Part One,” a panel discussion on holistic health and fitness from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, in Room 218 of the Westside Classroom Building, Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension, in Danbury.

The event, presented in collaboration with the WCSU Center for Entrepreneurship, Research, Innovation, and Creativity (ERIC), will feature a panel discussion about how a passion for health and fitness led the panelists to develop business practices that allow them to make a living while inspiring others.

This discussion, which is free and open to the public, will be an opportunity for the community to learn about alternative approaches to health and wellness, as well as to meet practitioners in the Danbury area.

Panelists will include:

Ward graduated from WCSU with a B.B.A. in Business Administration, and a B.A. in English, but her passion for yoga is what drives her today. As owner of Lotus Gardens Yoga School in Danbury, she trains others to open their own yoga businesses, believing yoga practice should be a lifelong commitment to learning, sharing, health and true serenity.

  •          Deana Paqua – Shamanic Healer and Reiki Master Teacher.

Paqua graduated from Fairfield University with a B.A. in English, and is now owner of Embody the Sacred in Ridgefield where she specializes in a grounded, spiritual, cross-cultural and holistic approach to wellness. She offers tools to use in everyday life to ensure health and wellbeing.

  •          Seana Hart – Certified Personal Trainer

Hart graduated magna cum laude from WCSU with a B.A. in history, yet always had a passion for exercise science. She specializes in the mental, emotional and spiritual component expressing itself in the physical body.  Through her EarthFIT and WholeFIT service businesses, she loves to see her Holistic Lifestyle Coaching clients make lifetime transformations, both mentally and physically.

This event is also supported by the School of Professional Studies, Department of Health Promotion & Exercise Sciences (HPX). For more information, contact IHHS Director Christel Autuori at autuoric@wcsu.edu, or at (203) 837–8559.

The IHHS is housed within WCSU’s Department of Health Promotion and Exercise Sciences (HPX). The mission of the IHHS is to provide the university and Greater Danbury area with an opportunity to engage in and explore different aspects of holistic and integrative health through programming and instruction. Its holistic perspective on health and healing integrates conventional healing with traditional and modern alternative practices from around the world.

The HPX department at WCSU offers two Bachelor of Science degrees: Health Education (Certification Pre-K-12) and Health Promotion Studies. Within the Health Promotion Studies program, students may choose one of four options/concentrations: Wellness Management, Community Health, Allied Health Professions, and Holistic and Integrative Health. The students in these degree programs are prepared for entry-level, certified health education specialist (CHES) positions. The focus of studying health promotion and exercise science is to educate students about the importance of a physically active lifestyle, wellness, fitness, health protection and preventative services in school as and the larger global community.
