Socrates Cafes are gatherings around the world where people from different backgrounds get together and exchange thoughtful ideas and experiences while embracing the central theme of "Socratizing," the idea that we learn more when we question and question with others. Our meetings will be held on the third Monday of the month, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. and our second meeting will be held onMonday, August 21. Please register for this discussion group.
Our Socrates Cafe is being led by experienced facilitator Lorraine Donovan. Loretta has twenty-eight years of experience as a facilitator, and has taught inquiry based facilitation at Columbia University. She also certifies others in strength based facilitation
At a Socrates discussion, participants explore, interrogate, and investigate, in friendly conversation. They have an opportunity to explore the world through listening to others who might look at the world quite differently. It is not a place to argue, debate, or persuade. Each month the conversation varies and one will never know in advance where it may lead. No preparation is necessary; there is not a designated book-of-the-month to read or philosophic topic to study. The only request is that you come with an open mind and a friendly attitude and be willing to let your mind expand.
