July is a busy month here in Brookfield - please make note for a few events you will not want to miss!
- Fridays, July 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31 - Concerts in the Park at the Town Hall Bandstand (6:30pm).
- Saturday, July 4 - The Town Park Beach on Candlewood Lake will reopen. Access will be limited to our beautiful new lakeside building, boat ramp, and to the beach area (via the boat ramp). The new beach area and retaining walls are impressive - covering over three times the area of the old beach. The rest of the landscaped picnic and play areas will still be a work-in-progress. We anticipate that they will be ready for use near the end of July.
- Saturday, July 18 - Brookfield will honor, commemorate, and memorialize the military service and sacrifice of Darren James LaBonte and Jason Dale Lewis.
- 2:00pm - Memorial Service in the Rotary Memorial Garden at Town Hall
- 3:00pm - BROOKSTOCK V Tribute to Darren and Jason at the Town Hall Bandstand
- 7:00pm - Brookfield Historical Society Museum - Music to honor the service of all Veterans
Darren, Brookfield High School Class of 1992, KIA while serving in the CIA, Afghanistan, December 30, 2009.
Jason, Brookfield High School Class of 1995, a Navy Seal, KIA, Baghdad, Iraq, July 6, 2007.
In closing, please let me extend a note of hearty best wishes to all for a happy and safe summer! The level of pedestrian traffic increases during the summer - especially around the lakes and parks. As you drive around town, please proceed slowly and cautiously. And, if you are out on the roads as one of the pedestrians - walking, running, or cycling - please be alert and aware of the vehicular traffic. Lastly, let's always hold dear the service of those who provide the safety and security that we enjoy as Americans.
