Harvey Nets Big Win in Hoops Action
Harvey’s boys varsity basketball team moved into a three-way tie for first place in the Housatonic Valley Athletic League Wednesday when the Cavaliers defeated league rival Watkinson 64-53. It’s Harvey, Watkinson and Forman atop the HVAL.
It was a tight game from the start as Harvey held a three-point lead at intermission. The Cavaliers knew going in that if they wanted to win they would have to contain Watkinson’s 6’5’’ guard Michael Sagay. Senior Sam Mackiewicz and junior Mike DePass were given the tough task of defending Sagay. Although he led all scorers with 26 points, Sagay tallied 17 of those points from the free-throw line. The double-team defense against Watkinson’s big man kept him from getting any open looks the whole night, and he had to work hard for every point he scored.
Jovell Forsythe added nine points for Harvey while DePass and Rohan Cassells combined to give the Cavaliers another 15 points.
The win improves Harvey’s overall record to 8-5 and 4-1 in the HVAL. Coach Dom Narcisco was happy to see his team rebound from a tough loss to Forman last week.
“It was nice to get the confidence back up and get the momentum back on our side,” said Coach Narcisco.
Harvey will travel to play Faith Christian Academy Friday.
