The Family Adventure Film Of The Summer
“The Incredible Adventures of JoJo (and his annoying little sister Avila)”
July 29 & Aug 2 in Bethel
Not since The Flyboys came to Danbury back in 2008 has there been an independent film as much fun as “The Incredible Adventures of JoJo (and his annoying little sister Avila)” says FilmFest52 Exec Director: Tom Carruthers
Jojo’s incredible adventure begins when he wakes up from a car crash in the middle of the woods. Reluctantly, he takes his baby sister Avila from the crash and plops her into his backpack. The two begin and incredible journey finding their way home encountering hobos, wolves, and raging rivers along the way. THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURES OF JOJO (AND HIS ANNOYING SISTER AVILA) is pretty much the daydream that every seven-year-old kid has ever had. Ever. There’s adventure, danger, comedy, and Skittles. If you’re a parent, this film may make you squirm. But if you’re a child or a child at heart, Jojo and Avila will take you on the incredible journey you’ve been waiting for.
FilmFest 52 is the weekly film festival screening films from emerging independent filmmakers every Wednesday evening at 7:00pm at The Bethel Cinema located at 269 Greenwood Ave in Bethel.
“This film is such a crowd pleaser that we have decided to have 2 screenings. One for Adult Kids (and some little kids too) at 7:00pm on Wednesday July 29th and then another for Kids Only (only kidding) at 11:00am on Sunday, August 2nd. We have a bunch of fun interactive events lined up for the screenings" says Carruthers.
At 6:00pm, Tuesday evening, July 28 the festival is inviting artists from the area to showcase their chalk drawing talents and compete for prizes (first prize $100 and 2nd and 3rd prize certificates) on the sidewalk in front of the theater to create a JoJo Chalk Walk! Artists will draw their interpretation of images that depict scenes from the film. The best drawings will be judged by the filmmakers on Wednesday night prior to the screening.
On Wednesday night, Kids and Adults who show up to the screening wearing their pajamas and boots (preferably cowboy boots) will get Coon Skin Caps like the one JoJo wears in the film.
Following the the Wednesday night screening there will be a brief Q&A where the filmmakers will announce the winning artists of the JoJo Chalk Walk. The Q&A will be followed by a Meet ’n Greet after party in the lobby of the Bethel Cinema where guests and kids can rub elbows and have their pictures taken with the film directors: Brian Von Schmidt and Ann-Marie Plastino who are attending from California.
Sunday’s - Kids Only screening will feature a visit and kids Q&A with the filmmakers as well as the selection and announcement of the winning coloring sheets.
Tickets are $10.50 general admission and $9.00 for children under 12 years and for seniors.
