Brookfield Craft Center to repaint iconic sign on it's Mill Building

In its ongoing effort to preserve and improve its facilities the Craft Center plans to refurbish the iconic and historic sign on its main building.  “It has been almost 20 years since it was last painted,” recalled Howard Lasser the Craft Center’s Executive Director.  “We recognize the historical significance of this effort.  The sign represents a key part of Brookfield’s agrarian history.  We know the community would want to help us in our effort to preserve a part of the town’s past,” said Lasser.

The Craft Center is currently anticipating work on the historic Miller House as well as work to expand its Blacksmith Forge to begin shortly.  “We recognize we need to repair and maintain our facilities to continue to provide our excellent programs that preserve fine craftsmanship and continue to build a sense of community through the arts” said Board of Directors Chairman Mark Zerbe.  “We would like to see everyone come together to support the effort to refresh the sign.” Said Zerbe.

Maintaining the community focus of the campaign, the Craft Center will retain the talents of local sign painter, Dan McKee to restore the sign as well as Steve Turco who will paint the background. Members of the BCC Board of Directors are calling for support from all to help the Craft Center reach the $9,000 fundraising goal for the campaign to preserve Brookfield’s history and advance additional economic development through the project.  Recognizing the importance of the Brookfield Craft Center to the redevelopment effort in the 4-Corners, early backing has already been received from Brookfield Village LLC with a lead contribution.  Additional contributions have been received from the Brookfield Lions Club, Mitchell Oil Company and United Alarm. Other individuals, groups, and businesses are encouraged to join the effort by making a donation at www.brookfieldcraft.org or sending a check to Brookfield Craft Center, Attn: Mill Building Rejuvenation Project, P.O. Box 122 Brookfield, CT 06804.
