Iron Camp to Host Deadlift Competition with Cash Prizes in Support of PAWS of Greenwich

Performance Enhancement Specialist, LaRoy Warner, donates proceeds from first-ever powerlifting event designed to promote awareness for the importance of strength training in the community and support pet welfare.

LaRoy Warner, Owner of Iron Camp in Greenwich, is starting out strong in the New Year. On Friday, January 5, at 6:30 p.m., Iron Camp will host its first-ever Deadlift Party as a separate event from the Iron Camp Challange which is scheduled to begin the following week and conclude in March. The party involves a competition for cash prizes; $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place, and winners will be chosen by WILKS score. Deadlift event participants must be 18 years old or older and experienced. Each person will have two attempts and will not be able to use straps. Warner will donate proceeds from each $25 registration fee to PAWS of Greenwich.

Several years ago Warner adopted two rescue cats which he named Bruce, after Bruce Wayne of Batman, and Talia, after Talia al Ghul, Batman’s love interest. His beloved pets inspired him to donate his event proceeds to an organization that promotes pet welfare in the community. PAWS of Greenwich is a non-profit organization and a collective of dog lovers, working to make Greenwich, Connecticut and the greater Fairfield County area, a "paw-some, pet-friendly community". Funds raised will support Grass Island Dog Park revitalization efforts and other local pet-friendly initiatives and animal welfare causes in the community.

Online registration is limited to the first 30 experienced participants and the event is open to spectators or anyone interested in learning more about the art of powerlifting.  "Deadlifts are the purest form of strength," said Warner. He continued, "It is also the most functional exercise we can do since we all pick things up off the ground. I want to create a fun event to celebrate my passion while networking with other strength trainers in the area and supporting something that is also important to me, pets". All pre-registered participants must be at an intermediate or advanced level. This competition is not for beginners.

Warner, a certified personal trainer and nutritionist, believes that proper deadlift form is relative to the individual and their hand and foot placement, he also incorporates verbal cueing on the actual movement into his training assessment. "Clients at Iron Camp know how to lift! The barbell deadlift is one of the best exercises to build muscle, burn fat, increase athleticism, or focus purely on gaining strength, it's the one movement every lifter must do. Every time you deadlift, you should be focused on good form. When you lift with good form, the bar follows a path that allows for efficient use of the legs, hips, and back", said Warner.

Iron Camp, located at 55 Old Post Road 2 (near Polpo restaurant), is the newest performance enhancement studio in Greenwich with state of the art equipment. Warner is a former semi-professional athlete and has close to ten years of experience working one-on-one with clients in the area. As a health personal, Warner is known for his signature eight-week gym-based program designed for building posterior strength (a.k.a. superior glutes) and "The Iron Way" which is a power program focusing on strength through deadlift, squat and bench press, while providing muscle hypertrophy.

Warner opened Iron Camp last June and has worked with Hybrid Media to produce the Iron Camp Challenge in collaboration with Starr Films.  For more information and to register please visit Iron Camp online (theironcamp.com).
