Iron Camp Presents PAWS of Greenwich with $400 Check

Greenwich business owners collaborate and invite the community to participate in powerlifting event in support local pet welfare.

On Friday, January 5, LaRoy Warner, Owner at Iron Camp in Greenwich, hosted a special event to raise more than just heavy barbells - the new "sports enhancement facility" partnered with PAWS of Greenwich (www.pawsofgreenwich.com) to raise money for local pet welfare initiatives through PAWS of Greenwich at its inaugural Deadlift Party. Today, Warner presented PAWS of Greenwich founder, Jessica Del Guercio, with a check for $400 to help support her efforts to make Greenwich a more pet-friendly community. "If you're looking for an incredible workout experience, please check out Iron Camp. The studio is conveniently located right at 55 Old Post Road next to Polpo. Visit LaRoy's website for exclusive offers", wrote Del Guercio, in a social media post after visiting the Iron Camp studio and meeting with Warner.

Women represented half of the participants at the event. Cynthia Sena, from Stamford, has been powerlifting for one year and began training with Warner before he opened Iron Camp last June. Sena used a mixed grip during the event to maximize strength and lifted 275lbs. Leslie Taveras-Torres has been weight training for 10 years and used a hook grip to maximize control, she lifted 210lbs. "Trainers like LaRoy help women feel more comfortable with strength training. Most women are afraid to bulk up by lifting heavy weights, that isn't the case and LaRoy is good at helping his clients maintain the look they want while building strength" said Taveras-Torres.

All participants were scored by a WILKS formula which subtracts pounds lifted from body weight and uses a ratio to compare a range of skill levels. The first cash prize of $100 went to Frank DiPasquale who lifted 455lbs, the second cash prize of $75 went to Micheal Roberts who lifted 425lbs, and the third went to Dr. Aaron Gerard who lifted 475lbs. "The event was a lot of fun", said Warner. He continued, "Everybody had a great time and showed great sportsmanship. We had really good energy in the room for a great cause. I'm happy to announce that we had a couple of people hit their personal records, so that’s really awesome".

Warner plans to host another Powerlifting event this summer to focus on Deadlifts. He is currently producing the Iron Camp Challenge in collaboration with Starr Films and Hybrid Media to showcase his small group training classes.
