The LETRA (World Languages Club) members of WCSU seek donations: brand new arts & crafts supplies, gently used violins, flutes or small keyboards

Brittany storyCall for Donations for the Children of Granada, Nicaragua

The LETRA (World Languages Club) members of Western Connecticut State University are asking for donations of brand new arts and crafts supplies for the nonprofit foundation, La Esperanza Granada, or gently used violins, flutes or small keyboards for the Luisa Mercado Foundation in Masatepe, Nicaragua. Tax-deductible cash donations can be made directly to La Esperanza Granada through its website.

Esperanza, which means “hope” in English, is a foundation which builds schools in Granada, Nicaragua. The foundation is maintained entirely by donations. The Luisa Mercado Foundation offers the children access to a library, tutoring, and classical music instruments, free classes in classical music and concerts.

Six LETRA members will travel March 22-30 to Granada as volunteers through La Esperanza to work with the children on educational projects. The arts and craft supply donations (construction paper, markers, colored pencils, glitter, glue, etc.) will go directly to the students in the classrooms. It is LETRA’s mission to hand deliver six, donated violins, flutes or keyboards to the Luisa Mercado Foundation. The tax-deductible cash donations will go directly to La Esperanza Granada to help fund more schools and educational activities for the children.
