It’s no secret that getting a college education has become incredibly expensive. To help families meet the rising costs of tuition, Cartus Corporation annually presents three scholarships to children of its employees. The Danbury-based company with operations around the U.S. and globally, views the scholarship awards as an investment in future leadership and another way to support its valued employees.
A Cartus judging panel reviewed 20 applications, considering recommendation letters, student essays, transcripts and examples of leadership and community service activities. Amy Meichner, Cartus Vice President of Human Resources, said the judges agreed on the “extreme difficulty” of selecting winners from such a well-rounded group of applicants.
Maxwell Greene of Brewster, New York, was awarded $2,000, which he will apply to tuition at the University of Scranton. Greene plans to pursue a degree in neuroscience, with minors in mathematics and computer science.
“Leadership, inquisitiveness and an appreciation of community are key components of truly exceptional students,” said Meichner. “All three recipients have demonstrated these qualities in extraordinary ways throughout high school. We’re thrilled to support them as they prepare to do great things in college and in their future careers, as well.”
This is the seventh year that Cartus has offered its Scholarship Awards. To date, the company has distributed $29,000 to college-bound children of Cartus employees.
