George Foster, 1977 National League MVP, two-time World Series Champion and former NECBL Baseball Commissioner is Keynote Speaker
The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the prestigious (“NECBL”) New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce that they will be holding their 22nd Annual Celebrity Breakfast on June 10th at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury, CT.
The Annual Celebrity Breakfast welcomes the 2016 Danbury Westerners to the greater Western Connecticut community. The team is led by Josh Parrow, the new Danbury Westerner field manager who currently is also the pitching coach at Bridgeport University. In addition, the Westerners are thrilled to announce that George Foster, the 1977 National League MVP, two-time World Series Champion and former NECBL Baseball Commissioner, will be the celebrity breakfast keynote speaker.
Over his 18 year long career, Foster spent time with several MLB organizations including the Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, and the Chicago White Sox. Foster slugged 348 home runs during his illustrious career, and was named the National League’s Most Valuable Player in 1977. A five time All-Star, Foster is perhaps best known as a part of the “Big Red Machine,” which won back-to-back World Series titles in 1975-1976. He led the NL in home runs in 1977 with 52 and in 1978 with 40 home runs. After Foster retired in 1986 he remained active in baseball, and became a founding member of the NECBL. In 1994, George Foster also served as the inaugural commissioner of the NECBL.
