Cool Summer Production of Grease Entertains Appreciative Audience

Spotlight Arts Inc. delights us with the ultimate summer musical “Grease.” At the end of their opening night performance, an appreciative audience was on their feet applauding these energetic teens. Presented at New Fairfield High School 54 Gillotti Rd in New Fairfield, CT, “Grease” only has 3 more performances left this weekend. The 50 students are split into two casts. Cast B, consisting of a majority of slightly older teens and young adults will be performing on Friday, July 22nd at 7:30pm and Saturday, July 23rd at 7:30pm.  Cast A, who presented a cute, heartwarming rendition on Thursday evening, has their final performance Saturday, July 23rd at 2:00pm.

Director, Stephanie Rubino leads a production team including Janina Rosa &  Lyndsey Chance (Assistant Directors); Joanne Archibald (Vocal and Music Direction); Eric Leiggi (Choreography); Guy Thomas and Alicia Gaffey (Stage Management); Sarah Daleo & DB Productions (Costumes) and Suzanne Immarigeon (Technical Director).

The musical, which was the basis for the 1978 film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, tells the story of Sandy Dumbrowski, the new girl in town, and Danny Zuko, the school’s coolest greaser. They have a secret summertime romance - but when they get back to school, everything is different.

This production is the school version, which is more suitable in content for teens and tweens. The school version removes profanity, lewd behavior, and Rizzo's Pregnancy scare and certain songs have undergone lyric changes. The fun-loving spirit and immortal songs that make Grease a favorite among rock and roll fans of all ages. Spotlight Arts also included the songs from the movie like “Sandy,” “Hopelessly Devoted” and "You're the One That I Want" that were not in the original musical. One of the highlights of the evening was "Hand Jive" with full out energy, cartwheels and dance moves.

The cool costumes and 50’s sets provide the perfect backdrop for the production. The comfortable seating is racked and you’ll be kept cool with air conditioning – so much so that you may wish to bring your leather or pink lady jacket. I suggest buying your tickets online for the best seats at www.SpotlightArtsInc.com.
