RVNA Chronic Pain Discussion Group in January

Do you feel like pain interferes with your ability to enjoy your daily life? Do you often feel that no one really understands the level of pain you are experiencing? Perhaps you are a caregiver to someone with chronic pain?  To offer help, RVNA is forming a Chronic Pain Discussion Group, which will meet every Thursday for 6 weeks, beginning January 12 from 1:30 – 2:30pm in the Caregiver Support Room at RVNA, 27 Governor Street in Ridgefield.

It is estimated that over 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain, which is defined as pain that lasts longer than three months. It can be mild or agonizing, occasional or continuous, often inconvenient or completely incapacitating. Most often, pain is expected to stop once an underlying cause is treated. However, chronic pain can persist after injuries heal for no apparent reason.

Chronic pain is often seen as a physical problem, but many times it can take a physical and emotional toll on a person over time. Chronic pain is more than just discomfort; it changes how you go about your day. The emotional toll can make things worse and create a vicious cycle of pain coupled with negative feelings.

Join Margarita Garces-Shapiro, RVNA Community Health and Wellness Nurse as she moderates our Chronic Pain Discussion Group for those living with chronic pain. Explore the causes of different types of pain, what relief efforts are available, what alternative modalities are used for pain and what the latest research offers for pain sufferers.  This program is free and open to the public. Please sign up in advance by calling RVNA at //localhost/onsip/12034385555@null">203 438-5555.
