Danbury Symphony Orchestra Performs on October 29

On Sunday, October 29, 2017, the Danbury Symphony Orchestra, directed by Ariel Rudiakov, will perform a concert featuring Robert Fertitta, pianist. The performance will take place at 3:00pm at the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) at Western Connecticut State University, located at 43 Lake Avenue Ext.

You are invited to come early to see a chat and a performance of a Sonata with music director and conductor of the Danbury Symphony, Ariel Rudiakov, and featured guest, Robert Fertitta. This will start promptly at 2:30 at VPAC.

The Danbury Symphony Orchestra will be performing Borodin’s Symphony #2 in B minor in its entirety and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor.

Robert Fertitta is a retired music educator and has performed on the piano, organ and harpsichord for nearly fifty years. As pianist, he has given solo recitals, chamber music programs, and over 150 recitals with students at the Purchase College Conservatory of Music, where he was on the faculty for thirty years. Mr. Fertitta’s cadenzas for six of Mozart’s piano concertos have been performed in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and Australia.

Borodin’s Symphony #2 was composed between 1869 and 1876. It consists of four movements and is considered the most important work completed by Alexander Borodin himself. Of Georgian origin, Alexander Borodin was one of the prominent Romantic Russian composers known as The Mighty Handful – a group devoted to developing a uniquely Russian style of classical music. In addition to writing music, Borodin was a doctor and chemist.

Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C minor consists of three movements and was composed in the winter of 1785-1786. This work is one of Mozart’s most recognized compositions in the concerto genre and is considered to be one of Mozart’s greatest piano concertos.

Danbury Symphony Orchestra is a part of 82-year old Danbury Music Centre which offers classical music experiences to all in the greater Danbury area.
