National Hat Day is will be celebrated on January 15th and being that Danbury is known as the "Hat City," the Danbury Library will hold special programs to recognize the day.
On Friday, January 12th from 1:30-2:30pm, John O'Donnell, Librarian and local history specialist, will speak about the Hatters Strike of 1901. The officers and 250 rank-and-file members of the United Hatters of North America Union from Danbury and Norwalk embarked on a strike against the Danbury hat-making factory of D.E. Loewe & Company that would last for 16 years. The program is free of charge. Registration is required online at danburylibrary.org, click on "Visit" or call 203-797-4505, option 3.
On Tuesday, January 16th, kids and their families are invited to come and create their own colorful hat. Families can drop in anytime between 1:00 to 5:30pm. The Library will supply the materials to make a pirates hat, party hat or paper plate bonnet. The program is free, no registration required.
