Danbury Library teams up with local Microsoft Store to promote coding for kids

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Danbury Library has teamed up with staff from the local Microsoft Store to encourage children ages 6 and older to bring their imaginations to life by learning the Paint 3D program in Windows 10 and then creating their own artwork inspired by Dr. King's “I Have a Dream" speech.  The program will be held on Sunday, January 14th from 1:30-3:30 in the Library's Junior Services Department.  The workshop is free of charge. Registration is required.

On Tuesday, January 16th from 5-7pm, kids ages 7-12 are invited to come and play in Minecraft while learning to code using Microsoft’s MakeCode platform.  With assistance from the local Microsoft store, participants will program an Agent robot to complete challenges and even change the weather, or as they say in the world of Minecraft: they will make it rain Ocelots and Wolves!

By the end of the workshop, participants will have increased confidence in their technical and coding skills; improved their computational and creative thinking; read and understood code in the MakeCode environment and programmed code in Minecraft to change the weather and control an agent.  No prior experience with MakeCode or Minecraft is required.  Registration is required.

Registration is available online at danburylibrary.org, click on "Visit", "programs/event" or by email to  amuraca@danburylibrary.org.  For more information, contact Aurelio Muraca, Technology Program Coordinator at 203-797-4505, ext. 7726.
