Animal Week at WCSU begins on April 11

WCSU Roots & Shoots hosts annual ‘Animal Week’

With springtime and Earth Day approaching, it’s time to get outside to appreciate nature. The Roots & Shoots club at Western Connecticut State University, established by the Jane Goodall Center for Excellence in Environmental Studies to promote the importance of global conservation and environmental issues, will once again host “Animal Week,” a popular springtime campus event, from April 11 to 14.

Animal Week events are free and open to the public. Most will take place on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White Street in Danbury, with the exception of the April 14 event, which will be at the Campus Center on the Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.

The events will include:

  •        Monday, April 11, at noon – “Birds of Prey” featuring birds from ‘A Place Called Hope” in Killingworth. Trainers will demonstrate birds of prey in flight over the Centennial Grove on the Midtown campus quadrangle.
  •        Tuesday, April 12, at noon – “Reptiles on the Move” An array of reptiles will be on display for viewing in the Midtown Student Center Theater.
  •        Wednesday, April 13, at noon – “Animal Demonstration” featuring Animal Adventures, a rescue organization from Bolton, Massachusetts. A trainer will showcase different animals in the Midtown Student Center.
  •        Thursday, April 14, from 5 to 10 p.m. – “Animal Week Concert” A concert will take place on the patio of the Westside Campus Center. Performances include local bands Zanders, Spectral Fangs, and King Bongos, as well as WCSU Students. Proceeds from the concert will fund food and supplies for the Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS).
