Danbury Resident Takes Home Gold in Gymnastics Nutmeg State Games

The Nutmeg State Games is modeled after the Olympic Games featuring competition for all Olympic sports, and was held July 15-17. The entire state is divided into four regions to represent four "countries" during the games (North, East, South, West). Each state in the country has their own "State Games" and the top three medalists from each state in their particular sport qualify to the State Games of America held in Grand Rapids, Michigan next August, 2017.

Two athletes competing from Kratos Gymnastics of Brookfield, CT, but  ultimately representing "West" for Connecticut, took home gold during the weekend's events. The competition featured girls from all over Connecticut.

Macie Montaina: Competed in Level 3 Gymnastics - 6 years old 1st grader from New Fairfield, CT. She won four out of a possible five gold medals! She won gold in vault, uneven bars, floor exercise, and All-Around (a combination of all four scores on each event) & bronze on balance beam.

Ziya Shabazz-Williams: Competed in Xcel Silver Gymnastics - 11 years old from Danbury, CT. She won five out of a possible five gold medals vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise, and All Around.
