Downtown Danbury Decorating Contest Winners

On one of the chilliest nights of December, a lively group of people bedecked in festive hats braved the cold to visit 30 different places along Main Street: all participants of CityCenter Danbury’s Second Annual Holiday Decorating Contest. The HARTransit trolley was a warm beacon shining along the way, delivering a “Merry Christmas” message as well as the many cookies from Mothership Bakery and Café that were given out to those patiently waiting for the judges.

The judges for this year’s event were Jacky Smith (News-Times editor), Lou Milano (i95 radio host), and Taylor O’Brien (public relations coordinator for the mayor’s office). Mayor Mark Boughton also stopped by to kick off the festivities.

Unlike the inaugural contest in 2016, this year there was an added twist to determine which business would be awarded People’s Choice. A scavenger hunt was created by Art Stueck, president of REI Property Management and a CityCenter board member, in hopes that more people would go out to view the merchants’ efforts. Quite a few people ventured around downtown Danbury to fill out the forms, and a winner was tallied from the scores given.

The winners of CityCenter’s Second Annual Holiday Decorating Contest are:

First Place - Danbury Parking Authority (Bardo Garage)

Second Place - La Mitad del Mundo Restaurant

Third Place (tie) - Mothership Bakery & Café and Danbury Hackerspace

People’s Choice - Aging with Attitude (AWA Medical Supplies)

Winners will be awarded CityCenter Bucks, a unique currency that CityCenter hopes will drive more activity within the downtown district, redeemable at participating restaurants, retail stores, and other businesses.
