Danbury resident Jackie Morrison is a Hometown Hero & will be honored on February 27

Danbury resident Jackie Morrison will receive the "Hometown Hero" award from the United Way of Western Connecticut on February 27 at The Hometown Heroes Benefit Dinner.

United Way profiles Jackie Morrison:

For all the years that Jackie has lived in Danbury, she has worked to enhance the quality of life in the area with her energetic and optimistic personal style. Jackie played a leadership role in implementing programs and building community as both a temple administrator at the United Jewish Center and later as the assistant director at The Jewish Federation. She brought these same admirable interpersonal skills to her work at Ann's Place where as coordinator of volunteers, she cultivated volunteers during year-round successful fundraising efforts from the much anticipated summer golf tournaments to the Festival of Trees that ushers in the winter holiday season. For many years, Jackie was a driving force in the advocacy and social justice work done by the Danbury Section of the National Council of Jewish Women. In recent years, Jackie has been volunteering at our United Way supporting the efforts of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program. Jackie also runs the Reading Partners Program in twelve Danbury elementary schools coordinating more than 100 volunteers who work one on one with students. This has been a fifteen year local effort in response to the National Jewish Coalition for Literacy’s mission to help America's children become life-long readers.

Additional award recipients include:

-        Corporate Philanthropy Award to Kimberly-Clark Corporation for exemplifying corporate social responsibility and demonstrating a strong commitment to giving back to the community

-        Corporate Volunteer Award to Savings Bank of Danbury in honor of their leadership in promoting volunteerism as a part of their corporate culture

-        Small Business Hero Award to Ralph McIntosh, Del-Tron Precision, Inc. in recognition of his leadership, commitment and generosity to the greater Danbury community
