Danbury student wins school’s National Geographic Bee

King Street fifth-grader has chance to qualify for state bee

As part of an enrichment program at King Street Intermediate School, students learned capital cities of countries around the world and participated in the National Geographic Bee at school. At the school’s recent competition, Roxanna Ayala, a fifth-grade student at the school, took first place among her schoolmates and will now try to qualify for the state level competition. State bee qualifiers will be announced March 4.

Each year thousands of schools across the country participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. Schools with students in grades four through eight are eligible for the competition.
“Roxanna is a very hard worker,” said her teacher Susan Schuman.

The state bees are held in every state and Washington, D.C., on April 1. The national championships will be held May 22-25 in Washington, D.C.
