Employment Opportunity: Bookkeeper/Controller (Part-Time)

HOUSATONIC HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, a non-profit organization providing affordable home ownership in 16 towns in western Connecticut, is seeking a skilled part-time bookkeeper, or controller to work at our office in Danbury. 
 
This person will work closely with the Executive Director, Outside CPA and Board of Directors-Treasurer with the recording of all financial transactions, including its retail ReStore* purchases and receipts, contributions, payroll, and monthly homeowner mortgage payments. The person will post information to books of records and reconcile all accounts to ensure accuracy, integrity and legal requirements. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee Accounts Payable function; code and enter invoices and deposits in Quickbooks.
  • Work closely with ReStore*, Construction and Affiliate to assist with monthly reporting, cash flow and all other financial transactions.
  • Assist with banking function from preparing various deposits to reconciling all bank statements.
  • Understand Payroll and Mortgage servicing functions; work with Payroll and Mortgage Servicing companies to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end financial statements, budgeting and audit information.
  • Assist Executive Director in various other projects as needed.
  • Assist with new homeowner application tracking, processing and follow-up.
Education, Experience and Skills required:
  • A minimum 7-10 years of proven bookkeeping experience and skills.
  • Hands on experience with Excel spreadsheets, Word and Quickbooks.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
  •  Must have excellent interpersonal skills and customer service skills.
  • Must be able to keep client matters strictly confidential.
  • Understanding the financial accounting of non-profit organizations a plus.
  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration preferred.
