Danbury students recognized for inventions at state competition

Nine Danbury students were recognized for their inventions at the Connecticut Invention Convention held April 30 at the University of Connecticut Storrs.

More than 130 Connecticut schools and hundreds of students participate in the CIC each year. The Danbury district held its districtwide Invention Convention on March 22-23 at Western Connecticut State University.

The “Recognized Inventors” from Danbury schools are:

Norah Bekkali, Hayestown Avenue School grade 5, “Child Safety Lock”; Sahil Patel, Hayestown grade 5 “The New Improved Desk”; Mya Cefaloni, Great Plain Elementary School grade 4 “Hide Away Headband”; Connor Coutinho, South Street School grade 5 “Pocket Safe”; Daniel Li, King Street Intermediate School grade 4 “The Magically Untying Shoe”; Srishti Ramakrishnan, Shelter Rock School grade 5 “Frict-o-Lace”; Anabella Tam, Pembroke Elementary School grade 2 “Push and Dry”; Kushi Sukhadia, Westside Middle School Academy grade 8 “The Rapid Allergy Tester”; and Vincent Trombetto, Westside grade 6 “The Brush Buddy.”

The Invention Convention is part of the Danbury Public Schools science curriculum. For three weeks students engage in coming up with ideas and putting them into motion. One of the crucial learning curves for students is to figure out how to solve problems with their inventions and tweak them to perfection. The invention convention fosters interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics learning for students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
