Richard J. Hoddinott Sr., lifelong Danbury resident, has died

Richard J. Hoddinott Sr.

Richard J. Hoddinott Sr., “Dick”, 86 of Danbury, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. He was the loving husband of Mary (Costello) Hoddinott.

A lifelong Danburian, Dick was born on February 27, 1930; the son of the late Henry and Rose (Carroll) Hoddinott. He attended local schools and served in the US Navy prior to the Korean War. Dick was a Machinist for the Dunham Tool Company of New Fairfield for over 40 years, prior to retirement. 

He was a parishioner of St. Peter Church of Danbury; he enjoyed eating out, watching the New York Yankees and reading about US Presidents and politics. 

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary. Dick is also survived by his son, Rick and his wife, Susan of Danbury as well as two grandsons; Ricky and John. Several nieces and nephews also survive him. In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his first wife, Gertrude and his sister Rita Jandro.

The family would like to thank the Danbury Nurses Registry and his wonderful caregivers Paulina, Gifty, Fati, Pepe, Elsina, Henry, and Michael. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vida who cared lovingly and compassionately for Dick for more than 3 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church; 121 Main Street, Danbury. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. There will be no calling hours. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Peter Church of Danbury or to the Danbury Nurses Registry.

Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, Danbury is in charge of funeral arrangements.
