Open Auditions for The 39 Steps, August 29 & 30 in Ridgefield

The Ridgefield Theater Barn will hold open auditions for The 39 Steps, Sunday, August 28th at 6pm, and Monday, August 29th at 7pm at 37 Halpin Lane in Ridgefield.  The play, a theatrical staging of the famous 1935 Alfred Hitchcock film, adapted by Patrick Barlowe and John Buchan, will be directed by Katherine Ray, and presented Friday and Saturday evenings from November 18th to December 10th at 8pm, with Sunday matinees November 27th & December 4th at 2pm.

Set in 1935 London and Scotland, the style is not camp, but satire done in high style. A Tony Award-winning play, The 39 Steps had a highly successful three-year run at the Roundabout, and Helen Hayes Theatres, as well as Off Broadway at the New World Stages. It involves murder, intrigue, espionage, and romance. A company of four actors play all of the roles. All actors must be superb technicians who can create many different characters and utilize many different accents. The transitions from character to character are completely seamless with no makeup, minimal costume changes, and a set which consists of little more than a door and a few chairs. This is a highly physical show for all four actors.

Casting three men and one woman.  All actors must be versatile with abilities in physical comedy, farce and an aptitude for dialects (working class English, Northern English, Irish, Scottish, cultured British, German and Russian). This is a fast paced, high energy physical production, but a lot of fun to perform.

Auditions will consist of character monologues, cold readings from the script and improvisations. Dress comfortably for movement. More information, including a complete cast breakdown, are available on the website, www.ridgefieldtheaterbarn.org
