CT Choral Society to Sing in NYC Opera on October 8

Connecticut Choral Society to perform Opera with Teatro Grattacielo in New York City

The Connecticut Choral Society (CCS) will be collaborating with New York's Teatro Grattacielo for a concert production of Vittorio Gnechhi's opera Cassandra on October 8, 2016 at 8:00 pm. The performance will be held at The Gerald Lynch Theater at John Jay College (524 West 59th Street, NY). CCS will be joined by the New Jersey Choral Society (NJCS) and the NJCS Festival Youth Chorus. Cassandra, a rarely performed work, is believed to be the inspiration for Richard Strauss’ opera Elektra.

The Connecticut Choral Society, based in Southbury, CT, with auditioned singers hailing from 20 towns, has been named one of the top five choral ensembles in the state. Founded in 1980, CCS is known for its concert excellence, both in the United States and internationally. This season marks the 10th anniversary of the leadership of the ensemble’s conductor Eric Dale Knapp.

Teatro Grattacielo, a New York City-based professional opera company, founded in 1994 by current Artistic Director, Duane Printz, specializes in concert performances of rarely heard Italian operas. Ms. Printz was honored this year by Opera Index for her work with these forgotten masterpieces. The premiere of Vittorio Gnecchi's Cassandra was conducted by Arturo Toscanini in 1905, but fell into obscurity within 10 years. The October 8, 2016 performance will be conducted by Maestro Israel Gursky.

Advance tickets are $25.00 and $50.00. For more information, visit www.grattacielo.org. Tickets are available at www.ticketcentral.com. To learn more about the Connecticut Choral Society concert season, go to www.ctchoralsociety.com
