Danbury Titans End Weekend with Win

Tyler Noseworthy had two goals and Nick Niedert stopped 24 of 26 shots as the Titans snapped a 3 game losing streak by defeating the Watertown Wolves by a score of 6-2 on Star Wars night at the Danbury Ice Arena on Sunday. The Danbury faithful came out for Star Wars night and posted the highest attended game of the season so far with over 1500 fans in attendance.

Tim Richter was signed yesterday by the Titans and made his season debut, taking the spot of Tyler Becker in the Danbury lineup. The Naugatuck native would not wait long to make his precense felt as his shot from the point was put home by Mike Dolman to give the Titans an early 1-0 lead. Dean Yakura would receive the second assist on Dolman's 6th of the season and 2nd in as many games.

Niedert would get the start for the Titans after being returned from a stint in the ECHL with the Elmira Jackels, and made big saves early in the second period to preserve the lead. He was finally beaten by Jesse Fancchini halfway through the second period as the Wolves were able to pull even. Danbury would respond with a power play goal with under a minute to go in the period as Alex Johnson potted his 7th of the season. Dalton Jay and Noseworthy had the assists as Danbury was able to take the momentum into the second intermission.

The third period would prove be the most entertaining, starting with Taylor Bourne's 12th of the season just over three minutes into the period standing up to be the game winning goal, assisted by Vadim Subotnikov and Matt Graham. Noseworthy would score his first of two goals with under seven minutes to go giving the Titans a 4-1 lead. Looking to light a fire for his team, Watertown's Shane Halaas challenged Dolman to a fight and the two traded blows at center ice before the linesmen would separate them. Less than a minute later the Wolves would score 5 seconds into a power play with Fancchini's second of the game to pull within two, but that was as close as they would get. Noseworthy would score an empty net goal unassisted, and Dean Yakura added the exclamation mark with his 6th of the season with 30 seconds remaining.

With the win, the Titans retain control of third place in the Federal Hockey league, improving to a record of 12-12-3-1. They will again face off against the Watertown Wolves with a 7:15PM faceoff on Friday, January 20th.  It will be Education Night presented by Savings Bank of Danbury where local teachers and aides will be honored. That game will be Pucks and Paws Night at the Danbury Ice Arena, and fans are encouraged to bring blankets, towels, dog and cat food and other items for donation to the Danbury Animal Welfare Society.
