Connecticut’s Talented Baristas to Gather at Café Xpresso in Newtown for a Latte Art and Espresso Drink Throwdown

Connecticut’s Talented Baristas to Gather at Café Xpresso in Newtown for a Latte Art and Espresso Drink Throwdown on Tuesday, February 21 at 7 PM

Daily consumption of espresso-based beverages has nearly tripled since 2008, according to the latest data from the 2016 National Coffee Drinking Trends (NCDT) report. This is no surprise to our local coffee shops and roasters who have added to an already robust food service industry throughout the state. On Tuesday, February 21, Connecticut baristas will gather for a caffeinated evening of latte art designs and creative espresso concoctions – and most of all, camaraderie.

“We are excited to be hosting this event, “says Café Xpresso owner Marie Schlump, whose roadside coffee house, bakery and sustainable eatery features locally roasted coffee and Arethusa Farms dairy products in their coffee and espresso beverages, “It’s a true art form creating these milk foam designs and balancing flavors for the many innovative espresso drinks we’ve all  been enjoying.”

Joining in the fun will be (to date) 15+ baristas, representing popular, as well as new cafés such as NEAT, The Granola Bar, Source Coffee, New Morning Market, Dolce Café, N2 Coffee, and of course, Café Xpresso. Also competing in this winter warm-up are local latte art hobbyists and coffee lovers.  To participate, email latte@maxexposure.net.

Primarily judged on creativity for latte art, and balance, flavor and creativity for espresso drinks, participants will be presenting their works of art to local coffee roasters, the media, and food industry professionals. Prizes will be supplied by Saccuzzo Coffee Co. and Willoughby’s Coffee & Tea.

General public is welcome! Café Xpresso will be serving samples from their from-scratch menu.

Café Xpresso is located at 150 South Main Street, Newtown, CT
