Dr. Catherine Shanahan Joins Western Connecticut Medical Group Newtown Primary Care & Health Specialists

DANBURY, Connecticut – April 11, 2017 - Western Connecticut Medical Group (WCMG) is pleased to announce that Catherine “Cate” Shanahan, MD has joined the staff at Newtown Primary Care and Health Specialists located at 170 Mount Pleasant Road in Newtown.

Dr. Shanahan received her undergraduate degree in biology from Rutgers University and trained in biochemistry and genetics at Cornell University’s graduate school before attending Robert Wood Johnson Medicine School. She practiced in Hawaii for ten years where she studied ethnobotany and began researching ancestral health while practicing Family Medicine. Dr. Shanahan applied her learning and experiences in these scientific fields to write the book “Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food.”

A board-certified Family Physician, Dr. Shanahan also served as director and nutrition consultant for the Los Angeles Lakers where she created the PRO Nutrition Program, a comprehensive dietary program for training staff, players and their families based on nutrition principles of successful world cuisines.

In 2010, Dr. Shanahan spearheaded T.R.I.M. (Treatment to Reverse Inflammatory Metabolism), a 12-week program that uses food as medicine to treat patients with diabetes and other medical conditions related to metabolic imbalance.

A popular speaker, Dr. Shanahan has lectured across the country and the Pacific, and has been featured in numerous top tier print and broadcast media outlets including the Los Angeles Times, Consumers Digest, Better Homes and Gardens, Men’s Magazine, Sports Illustrated, as well as The Primal Advantage Program, a Telehealth program providing metabolic consulting to clients across the U.S.
