Immaculate High School Students Receive High Honors for Service, Academics and Athletics

Immaculate High School recently presented its special Citizenship Award to nine students for the 2016-2017 school year. To receive the Citizenship Award honorees must have actively participated in school and community service, shown an understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility, exhibited strength of character and the courage to do what is right as well as a positive attitude toward classmates, school and the community; and promoted citizenship within the school and/or the community through various activities.

This year’s honorees were seniors Lauren Cirone (Newtown), Colm Doherty (Danbury), Mikhaela McFarlin (Brookfield), Matthew Olencki (Danbury) and Jillian Pruner (Bethel), and juniors Lauren Garvey (Bethel), Sebastian Ojeda (New Milford), Helena Sabo (Woodbury) and Joseph Suarez (Bethel).

At the annual Breakfast of Champions Breakfast on May 24, the Diocese of Bridgeport recognized Immaculate High School seniors Sean Fahey (Danbury), Diana Kirkman (Sandy Hook), Kayla Lanza (New Milford), Danielle Marcone (Bethel), Christian Morris (Danbury) and Jillian Pruner (Bethel) for their academics, athletic achievement and above all striving to live a lifestyle that exemplifies good citizenship, commitment and community service.

Jillian received the St. Thomas Aquinas Award. The St. Thomas Aquinas award is presented to students in their last year of elementary or high school who have demonstrated academic accomplishment and also "exemplify the Gospel Values we are called to in our Catholic faith through service to others and Christ-like behavior."  The St. Sebastian Award was awarded to Diana and Danielle for girls cross country, to Kayla for girls soccer and to Sean and Christian for boys indoor track.  The St. Sebastian Award is awarded to high school seniors who have not only achieved academic distinction but have shown leadership as the  captain of an athletic team that won at the State level during this academic year.

“We are very fortunate to have a student body that exemplifies good citizenship through their actions, activities and extensive community service. These most deserving students have demonstrated a very authentic optimistic attitude of extended commitment to be leaders who give of themselves and strive to make a significant difference in the lives of many,” said Mary Maloney, President of Immaculate High School.

Immaculate High School is a private, non-profit Catholic college-preparatory institution serving students from 28 communities in Connecticut and New York.
