Dr. Jamel Gibson has been chosen as the next principal of Shelter Rock elementary school
Originally from New York, Gibson’s most recent role has been as an assistant elementary school principal in Newport News, Virginia.
“I am excited for Dr. Gibson to lead our Shelter Rock community this year. His focus on building connections between our youngest students, their families and school has been highly effective in driving student performance, and I look forward to his bringing that enthusiasm for learning and growth to our Shelter Rock community,” said superintendent Dr. Sal Pascarella.
Gibson received his bachelor’s degree in music performance from the University of Hartford and began his career as an elementary music teacher in Virginia. He has a master’s degree in educational interdisciplinary studies and administration certificate from Cambridge College. He earned his doctorate in educational management from Hampton University.
Gibson’s appointment begins July 1.
