CT Choral Society Chamber Singers to perform at Heritage Village

An Evening of Song: Chamber Singers of the Connecticut Choral Society

The Chamber Singers of the Connecticut Choral Society will be performing in concert at Sarah Cooke Hall in Heritage Village on Friday, June 30th, 7:00 pm, capping off a very special month for Heritage Village as it marks its 50th anniversary.

The Chamber Singers is a select group of 20 voices from the larger 65-voice Connecticut Choral Society (CCS), which for over 35 years has made music that makes a difference in peoples’ lives, locally, regionally, and internationally.

CCS has appeared numerous times in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Woolsey Hall at Yale and has toured England, Canada, Europe, Australia and China, but they have remained dedicated foremost to bringing beautiful and inspiring works to local audiences in Connecticut. In 2014, CCS was named by WFSB in Hartford as one of the top five choral groups in the state.

The Chamber Singers is an “ambassador group” of the larger CCS, with the explicit mission of bringing great a cappella choral music into the lives of those who may not have the mobility or means to attend the CCS’s major concerts. As such, the Chamber Singers offer a wide repertoire of choral music - from madrigals to spirituals and folk songs to pop hits from the great American Songbook - in venues like libraries, town festivals, benefit events, assisted living facilities and senior centers. Formed in 1988, one early highlight was a 1990 appearance on the network TV show, Good Morning America.

The program for the Heritage Village concert will include a sampling of the Chamber Singers’ varied repertoire. It will feature American Songbook standards (When I Fall In Love, Moon River and Music, Music, Music), an ancient madrigal by Thomas Morley
(My Bonnie Lass She Smileth) and a more modern one by the witty and irreverent Peter Schickele (aka PDQ Bach) called My Bonnie Lass She Smelleth. The audience will enjoy two lively spirituals: Ain’a That Good News and Every Time I Feel the Spirit.

Pete Seeger’s beautiful folk song To My Old Brown Earth will also be performed, along with a special surprise. “I’m going to keep people guessing on this one,” Ron says, “but it was especially selected for this concert - a song that was a #1 hit in 1967, to celebrate this 50th anniversary for Heritage Village.”

Tickets for this not-to-be-missed concert on Friday, June 30th, at 7 pm, are available at the door for $10. For more information: ChamberSingers@ctchoralsociety.org, or call (860) 921-3075.
