Compiled by Jackie Logsted

Samantha Feliciano of Stratford, WSCU music education major and vocalist, will be one of four finalists in the Hartford Jazz Society's first Emerging Jazz Artist Showcase.

The public is invited to view performances by the finalists and vote online for a favorite artist through August 13. The winner of the competition, who will be announced during the Paul Brown Monday Night Jazz series concert at Bushnell Park in Hartford on Aug. 14, will receive a cash award and an invitation to present a solo performance on the Hartford Jazz Society River Cruise.

Feliciano has studied jazz voice at Western under the mentoring of Adjunct Professor of Music and professional jazz vocalist Atla DeChamplain. Recipient of solo and ensemble performance awards in the 2017 James Furman Honors Recital at WCSU, Feliciano has pursued extensive studies in jazz and classical voice at Western and credits legendary jazz singers Sarah Vaughan and Cecile McLorin Salvant as major influences in her development as a vocalist.
