Wooster Middle School Students Connect with Braeburn Elementary of Houston, TX

Wooster School's Center for Social Impact and the Middle School students are connecting with Braeburn Elementary School, in Houston TX.

As a result of extensive damage to their school during Hurricane Harvey, Braeburn has now relocated, as of September 25, to a new location - a less damaged, vacant high school building, about a 30 minute bus ride away. Braeburn Elementary serves 850+ students in grades Pre-K through 5, with about 80% of students being English-language learners (and mostly Spanish speakers) and 100% participation in the free lunch program.

Wooster Middle School is taking the lead in developing a friendship with Braeburn students. Wooster middle schoolers spent time writing cards for the Braeburn students, to let them know we are thinking about them, and creating posters to decorate their classrooms (which are not really set up for younger learners). In the coming weeks, we will continue to develop our relationship with Braeburn through helping with some material needs, including school supplies (which were destroyed in the hurricane) and collecting small picture books or other activities for the children to do on their long bus ride to their new school.
