Danbury resident Despina St. George, 87, has died

Despina St. George

Despina (Kontaxopoulos) St. George, 87, of Danbury, died on Sunday evening at Bethel Health Care, Bethel, CT.

Mrs. St. George was born in Mytilene, Greece, December 13, 1929, daughter of Basil and Ekaterina Kontaxopoulos. She moved to Athens to live with her Aunt and Uncle Christos and Glyckeria Photinou-Svoronou in the early 1940’s and was an Administrative Assistant at a large power company in Athens prior to coming to the United States as an exchange student at Clark University in Worcester, MA in 1956 and 1957 before returning to her position with the power company in Athens, Greece.

Despina moved permanently to the United States first settling in Mt. Kisco, NY in 1961 and to Danbury in 1972.

Mrs. St. George attended the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Danbury.

She is survived by two sons, Christopher C. St. George and his wife Mary of East Longmeadow, MA and Nicholas M. St. George of Boonton, NJ and a grandson, Aidan St. George.

The Rite of Burial will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 11 am in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury.

Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church on Saturday after 10:30 am.

Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
