Cultural Alliance of Western CT Seeks Art Entries for Accessible Art Project

Art Entries for 2018 Accessible Art Project - Deadline is Friday, January 5

Do you believe in and practice living creatively? Do you believe in and practice energizing your community through art and culture? Are you a professional or avocational visual artist who wants to share your statements with those who may not often have the opportunity to see them? If so, the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut is seeking art entries for its annual Accessible Art project, which celebrates its 10th year of showcasing visual artists in a year-long, multi-site series of exhibitions in the Greater Danbury region.

In its past, the project has shown well over 100 unique artists in venues that include Danbury City Hall, where the project first began, a bakery, a convalescent home, and the Main Street offices of an insurance company. (The current 2017 Accessible Art exhibitions may still be seen through Friday, December 29th and are noted on the Cultural Alliance's website, www.artswesternct.org).

Ever-expanding, the Accessible Art project is a collaboration between the Cultural Alliance, public and private venues, and artists. Its intent is to provide for artists to show work in nontraditional spaces, making art more accessible to the general public. It is also a way for business leaders to leverage creative talent to promote economic development and bring life to downtown communities.  This project is a unique opportunity to exhibit works in Danbury, Bethel, and other locations as they become available, with solo shows on view for approximately 8 weeks. Artists may also be selected for more than one location.

This "Call for Artists" for the 2018 Accessible Art project is open to artists who reside or work in Western Connecticut and Putnam County, NY. The Cultural Alliance accepts 2-dimensional works, whether representational or abstract, created within the last two years. All mediums are welcomed, including Oils, Watercolors, Graphics, Acrylics, Computer-generated pieces, Monotypes, Photography, Multimedia, etc., as long as the submissions are appropriate for public spaces.

Artists are required to be a current member of the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut to participate. The membership fee is $45.00 per artist (not per piece). Online payments are accepted at http://bit.ly/cawcmembership or for mail-in, make checks payable and send to: Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut (CAWC), 287 Main Street, Danbury, CT. 06810.

The 2018 Accessible Art exhibition series opens on Monday, February 5th. The deadline for entries, which may be submitted on the Cultural Alliance website, www.artswesternct.org, is midnight, Friday, January 5th. Artists will be notified of their acceptance by Saturday, January 13th.
