RVNA Health Source: Unique Holiday Gifts

Do you have a loved one living alone or in deteriorating health whom you worry about? Would you like to do something to make their life a little safer and easier? Consider these gifts: a Lifeline medical alert device and/or the non-medical help of a certified home health aide to assist with bathing, housekeeping and meal preparation.

Lifeline provides a vital safety net for those living independently and provides quick access to help 24 hours a day in the event of an emergency. Research shows there is a small window of opportunity in which medical assistance can make a difference for someone suffering a heart attack or stroke.

Lifeline’s unique “Auto Alert” personal response pendant detects a fall with 95% accuracy and signals for help after 30 seconds if your loved one cannot. The new Lifeline “Go Safe” medical alert system with GPS technology is appropriate for more active and mobile individuals. With any Lifeline system, RVNA is contacted if a hospitalization occurs and our staff will visit your loved one to plan a smooth transition back home. RVNA’s highly trained personnel install and provide education on the use of the Lifeline device.

Monthly fees are affordable, and service calls and battery replacement are free. Another “gift” to be considered is non-medical home care, hourly or daily, by HomeCare by RVNA. It may be just what your loved one needs to continue living independently, or it can provide respite care in the event a devoted caregiver needs a break. An aide is able to assist with activities of daily living, provide companionship and enable a person to remain in their home as long as possible.
