Educator and Danbury Resident, Barbara M. Mahoney, 59, has Died

Barbara M. Mahoney, 59, of Danbury, passed away on Saturday, January 6 at Danbury Hospital. She was the loving wife of Daniel P. Mahoney.  

Barbara was born in New Rochelle, NY on October 16, 1958; a daughter of Michel and Raymonde (Verdes) Rudi.  Born to French immigrants, she was first generation born in the United States and lived in Harrison, NY until moving to North Salem in 1974 where she graduated high school in 1977.  
 
A resident of Danbury for the past 35 years, Barbara worked in education for nearly 20 years, most recently working as a math tutor in the Ridgefield and New Fairfield school systems.  She led an active life and loved being outdoors; whether it was on a beach in the summer, or going hiking in the fall. However, her happiest moments were simply spent enjoying an afternoon among family and close friends, especially chasing after her beloved grandson Nolan. She was a member of St. Gregory Church of Danbury.
 
Barbara is survived by her husband of 35 years, Daniel and her children, Erica Mahoney and Brian Mahoney and his wife, Jennifer. She is also survived by her mother, Raymonde Rudi, her sister, Danielle Rudi and her husband, Eric Hanson and a grandson, Nolan Mahoney. Barbara was predeceased by her father, Michel Rudi.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 13 at 10:30 AM at St. Gregory the Great Church; 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury. Interment will be private. Friends will be received on Friday, January 12 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home; 9 Granville Avenue; Danbury
