Danbury restaurant owner brings his meatballs to Ridgefield

Family owned and operated, Mima’s Meatballs and More is redefining fast-casual dining one homemade meatball at a time. Best part? Meatballs will rolling into Ridgefield's Marketplace Cafe in early December. That’s right, Mima’s Meatballs and More will open in the space formally occupied by Andy's Pure Food (109 Danbury Road).

And, this is the real deal. “My son called my mother “Mima” hence, “Mima’s Meatballs and More”, it’s my mother’s meatball recipe, my grandmother’s sauce recipe,” explains Danbury resident and owner, Rob Atkinson. “It’s all about our Italian roots and family heritage,” he adds.

Atkinson opened Mima’s Meatballs and More on Mill Plain Road in Danbury about two and a half years ago and it’s been meatballs galore ever since. “We just opened our second location inside the Danbury Fair Mall,” he says.

Mima’s Meatballs and More fits today's culture and lifestyle - it’s fast, convenient, delicious, and BYOB. "You order at the counter and it will be delivered to you at the table,” explains Atkinson.

Customers are raving about meatballs, service and vibe of this new-concept eatery. “We’re #1 Danbury restaurant on Yelp and earned Trip Advisers Award of Excellence,” says Atkinson. What’s more, Connecticut Magazine named Mima’s Meatballs and More one of best BYOB restaurants in Connecticut.

“Every thing is made fresh and prepared in-house every day,” he says. It’s one-hundred percent wholesome and, Atkinson says, “One hundred percent healthy. We also have a gluten-free menu.”

Bringing his meatballs to Ridgefield was always part of Atkinson’s recipe for success. “We always wanted to get into the Ridgefield market,” he says. Two years of looking for the right space and BAM. “Space opened up,” says Atkinson. More meatballs on the horizon? “In the new year we will have a fourth store - we are opening in New Milford,” he explains.

Atkinson is no stranger to the culinary world. “I left the corporate restaurant industry to start this from scratch,” says Atkinson, (yes, “scratch, just the way he prepares his meatballs). “I always had the idea of being a multi-unit concept,” he says, adding “my background is in fine dining and this idea was to merge that into a fast casual environment.”

And the “more” part? “We don’t just do traditional Italian restaurant, we do buffalo, teriyaki, sweet chili, and all sorts of crazy sauces with the meatballs,” explains Atkinson. Check out the menu for “more” here.
