Danbury's Trailer Box Project Explores Man’s Impact on the Natural World

Trailer Box Project will unveil two thematically united exhibitions by local and regional artists. An installation by artist Dayna Wenzel, and an art film by collaborators Janice Mauro and Joanne Pagano Weber will be celebrated with an opening reception at 5:00pm on Saturday, October 22nd and will run through November 19th.

“Uniting the works are an appreciation of nature, concern over the continuing effects of climate change, and criticism of the destructive nature of consumerist culture,” explains Dana Walker, Trailer Box Project Director. “They invite the viewer to confront these issues and reflect on how they can personally make a difference.”

In Hive and Seek, Danbury artist Dana Wenzel invites the viewer to “Enter the hive” and explore the “elusive community of superior builders who have survived for eons” that are now threatened by the actions of man. Within the Trailer Box Project Space, Wenzel explores nature’s elegant and mysterious repetition of shapes and asks the viewer to consider their own personal connections to the environment. Born to an artistic family in Los Angeles, California, Wenzel studied Textile Design, Graphic Design, and Business at California State University before moving to New York and later Paris, where she immersed herself in the works of Master artists at museums and galleries. Wenzel now expresses her artistic impulses through three-dimensional creations that combine “nature-made” and handmade objects.

An art film by artists Janice Mauro and Joanne Pagano Weber will be the first film to be screened in the new on-site Trailer Box Gallery. In Beware of the Year 7000, the two collaborators expand on their 2009’s dystopian film, The Tidal Decade. The filmmakers utilize humor and self-criticism to address the ramifications of ongoing climate change and corporate greed.

Redding artist Janice Mauro, an award winning sculptor, has exhibited her work throughout the New York Metropolitan area and the Northeast. Mauro is currently a figurative sculptor at Silvermine School of Art  in New Canaan, Connecticut. Artist Joanne Pagano Weber of Sunnyside, New York received her MFA in Painting at Indiana University. She is an art educator at The College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York and Union City College in New Jersey, and has exhibited throughout New YoI rk and Connecticut.
