CityCenter Danbury Announces 1st Annual Downtown Stocking Stuffer Day on December 15

Now that 2016's Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday are behind us, CityCenter Danbury has announced a new shopping holiday. Through Big Box sales and the Internet, you've probably purchased your big ticket items, but you've probably not yet thought about those stockings on the fireplace mantel or the wooden shoe under the bed. You know, the ones everyone is eager for, stuffed to the brim with chocolate truffles, toy trucks, a new whisk, a ticket to "The Nutcracker", or perhaps that highly anticipated engagement ring.

On Thursday, December 15th, the 1st annual "Downtown Stocking Stuffer Day" will be celebrated in Danbury. PJ Prunty, Executive Director of CityCenter Danbury, says, "With the influx we see of growth in downtowns throughout the world by those who chose to live, work, learn, walk, and play in the urban life,  a 'Downtown Stocking Stuffer Day' seems an appropriate program to spearhead, and perhaps someday it will go National. The subsequent responsive and delightful return of mom-and-pop shops to Main Street, often now opened by youthful entrepreneurial spirits with unique enterprises, is a mark that Danbury, one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the nation, continues to rise.  'Downtown Stocking Stuffer Day' provides an opportunity to promote our community, businesses and holiday season in a joyful way."

Begin "Downtown Stocking Stuffing Day" at the Danbury Museum & Historical Society's Holiday Bazaar, where you'll find unique handmade items for the home or to decorate the tree (43 Main Street, 203-743-5200), then walk north to the Danbury Public Library where you can purchase repurposed books and continue to support a central Danbury institution (170 Main Street, 203-797-4505). Stroll along, past Main & West, where you'll find the Asia Fresh Market for all eats exotic (221 Main Street, 203-794-1699), take a turn right at Post Office Walk toward CityCenter Green and visit Julissa Designs for handmade jewelry (7 National Place, 203-788-9174). Return to 287 Main Street, where Workspace Collective (203-733-9541) has taken up shop at the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut, featuring artisanal products and accessories, and end your walk by visiting the Hat City Market to complete your "stocking stuffing" with food goodies from around the world (301 Main Street, 203-456-3904). Exhausted or full of good cheer?

There is plenty along the way - for shopping, dining, and enjoying the architecture that evolves from Danbury's beginnings through its period of Art Deco. (Danbury's Main Street is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.) For a complete list of CityCenter Danbury merchants, visit citycenterdanbury.com  Happy holidays.
