Hancock Hall is HOT for Blazin Asian Siracha Chili: Chili Warm-Up in Danbury on Sunday!

The Danbury Westerners in conjunction with the Danbury Sports Dome, Fairfield County Bank, Berkshire Broadcasting and a group of dedicated volunteers will present the 9th Annual Chili Warm-Up at The Danbury Sports Dome on Sunday, March 26th from 1:00pm - 4:00pm.

Our friends at Hancock Hall in Danbury are thrilled to be participating in this "hot" community event!

"Our chef, Jappy Blang, is from Thailand so he’s making a “Thai style” beef chili," says Hancock Hall's Jennifer Malone-Seixas. Complimenting the "Blazin Asian Siracha Chili" will be the ornamental garb worn by team Hancock Hall. "We’re all going to be dressed up as Sriracha bottles," says Malone-Seixas.

What is Thai chili? Malone-Seixas has agreed to share Chef Blang's exclusive and exceptional recipe with HamletHub.

The Chili Warm-Up is from 1:00-4:00pm and provides family fun including arts and crafts, a bouncy house, chili sampling, live music, vendors and much more. For the first time, we’ll offer beer & wine for purchase by those 21 and over. The cost for the event is $5.00 per person or $20 for a family of four or more. Purchase your tickets in advance HERE  or you can pay at the door.

Best of luck to all of the competitors!

And now, the recipe: Blazin Asian Siracha Chili

 Servings: 6-8

Ingredients:

1 lb Ground Beef

1 ½ Tbsp Red Curry Paste

6 oz Coconut Milk

4 oz Singha (Thai beer)

Siracha (To taste)

1 Tbsp Fresh Thai Chile peppers (minced)

Cayenne pepper (To taste)

1 ½ Tbsp cumin

1 Tbsp Minced Garlic

¼ cup Chopped Onions

¼ cup Chopped Scallions

¼ cup Diced Yellow Squash

¼ cup Diced Zucchini

¼ cup Diced Roasted Red Peppers (canned)

¼ cup Diced Green bell peppers

½ cup diced tomatoes (canned)

1 cup Red Kidney Beans

 (canned, wash thoroughly)

 Salt (to taste)

4 Tbsp vegetable oil

Method of Preparation:

-          Heat ½ of the oil in a pot. Then add the ground beef and cook thoroughly. Remove and drain the fat.

-          Now add the rest of the oil to the pot. Then take the garlic, chopped scallions, and chopped onions, curry paste, and add it to the pot. Sauté it for about 15 seconds.

-          Then add the rest of the vegetables (except for the roasted peppers, tomatoes, and kidney beans) to the pot. Sauté the vegetables for a few minutes.

-          Now add the rest of the ingredients to the pot including the ground beef. Bring it to a slow boil and simmer for about an hour. Stir and taste occasionally.

Tips: add the spicy ingredients a little at a time to control the heat.
