Fiddler on the Roof at Immaculate High School April 27-29

Tickets are now available for Fiddler on the Roof, the spring musical produced and performed by Immaculate High School’s award-winning Fine Arts Department. The musical will run from April 27-29 at Immaculate High School (IHS) and special reserved seating is available for all performances at www.immaculatehs.org/fiddler.

The musical is directed by Matthew Farina, with musical direction by IHS Choral Director Samantha Murtha ('07), and is produced by Aislinn Gavin ('07).

“The cast has been rehearsing three to four times a week and the musical numbers, especially for the guys, require great athleticism, so we continue to drill and practice,” said Matthew Farina, Director.  He noted that the cast and production crew of over 60 students have put together outstanding costumes and set designs to create the village of Anatevka, the setting of the story.  IHS students created the posters, playbook and lobby designs as well.

Fiddler on the Roof is a full-family affair with elaborate set and scenic design, lobby design and costuming,” said Aislinn Gavin, Producer. “Cast members, alumni and parents are vital to the production process and really step up to the plate, absolutely transforming the gym from a basketball court to a Broadway-quality theater,” she noted. IHS plays and musicals are so well done that they have been nominated repeatedly and in multiple categories for both the Seven Angels Theater Halo Awards and the Connecticut High School Musical Theater Awards (CTHSMTA); the 2014 IHS production of Les Miserables won the Outstanding Lead Actor Award and last year’s production of Oklahoma! received 12 award nominations in total (eight Halo and four CTHSMTA).

Fiddler on the Roof is a musical (music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and book by Joseph Stein) set in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia in 1905. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his orthodox Jewish religious and cultural traditions as outside influences encroach upon the family's lives. He must cope both with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters -- who wish to marry for love while each one's choice of a husband moves further away from the customs of his faith – and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village.

Reserved seating tickets for evening performances are $25 a ticket, and $15 a ticket for the Saturday matinee performance. Regular general admission tickets for evening performances are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, and  $10 for the matinee.  All tickets are available at www.immaculatehs.org/fiddler. Show times are Thursday, April 27 at 7pm, Friday, April 28 at 7pm, and on Saturday, April 29 there is a matinee at 2pm and an evening performance at 7pm.
