Local entrepreneur and circus performer brings the circus and STEM Action to the Danbury Library

The circus is coming to the Danbury Library – a S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) circus that is!

During the month of October, the Danbury Library will welcome its newest Maker-In-Residence, Cynthia Rauschert, who will utilize an exciting approach to introduce children and parents to use their bodies, as well as their minds, while being exposed to the S.T.E.M fields. Using circus skills, Cynthia, a Bethel, CT resident, will facilitate a series of workshops geared toward combining physics, mathematics, and engineering.

The scheduled programs are: “STEM Storytime: Circus of Crayons”, “Make Juggling Balls & Juggle” (registration required), “Make-A-Circus” (registration is required), “Circus Zone”, :Family Circus and STEM Storytime: Wired Up!”  The programs are open to all ages except Make-A- Circus and Make Juggling balls that are restricted to those 7 years and older.  For specific dates, times, and age restrictions, visit danburylibrary.org or call 203-797-4505, ext. 7726.  The programs are all free of charge.  In addition to the classes, Cynthia will also conduct activities at the Library and Hackerspace S.T.E.A.M. Fair on October 14th.

Since 2004 Cynthia has brought her coaching and performing skills to eighteen states, five countries, three continents, and one great big ship. In 2009, Cynthia founded Circus Moves, a mobile, circus arts education organization dedicated to inspiring and empowering people of all ages and abilities using the transformational powers of circus. Originally from a tiny town in New Jersey, she spent 2006-2016 honing her skills in the San Francisco Bay Area.  She’s excited to bring her circus back to the east coast to merge with the other performing and visual arts programs at Spark Arts to grow the most extraordinary arts center in Bethel, CT.

The role of the Danbury Library’s Maker-in-Residence is to create, with the help of community influence. This influence comes from library patrons, staff, and community members. They are involved through active participation in the creation of a project, artwork, presentation, or performance, or by helping to shape a creation through an exchange of ideas.

The ongoing Maker-in-Residence Program will feature makers at the Danbury Library.
