WCSU Gallery to partner with area museums for reduced-fee admissions

Guests who visit the “Parallel Practices” exhibition may request a pass from the gallery docent that they should present at any of the participating museums to qualify for an admission discount. Museums that will partner with WCSU in this collaboration include the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, the New Britain Museum of American Art and the Katonah (New York) Museum of Art.      

DANBURY, CONN. — Four art museums in Connecticut and Westchester County will offer reduced-fee admissions this winter to visitors who present passes that they may obtain while viewing the “Parallel Practices” exhibition in the Visual and Performing Arts Center Art Gallery on the Western Connecticut State University Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.

Guests who visit the “Parallel Practices” exhibition may request a pass from the gallery docent that they should present at any of the participating museums to qualify for an admission discount. Museums that will partner with WCSU in this collaboration include the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, the New Britain Museum of American Art and the Katonah (New York) Museum of Art. The reduced-fee admission fee offer at area museums will continue throughout the WCSU exhibition run from Thursday, Jan. 25, through Sunday, March 4.

The exhibition will be open for public viewing during gallery hours from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. An opening reception will be held at the gallery from 6 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 25. Admission for viewing and the opening reception will be free and open to the public; donations to sustain the Art Gallery exhibition program will be accepted. Reservations for the reception are requested online at www.wcsuvpac.eventbrite.com.

“Parallel Practices” will showcase the works of 11 critically acclaimed artists who work in more than one medium, demonstrating the cross-pollination of ideas and the unexpected variety of expression that happens concurrently in these artists’ studios, creating parallel bodies of work with equal importance to their artistic practices. Guest curators for “Parallel Practices” are Lori Glavin and Patricia Spergel. Featured artists include Harriet Bellows, Matt Bollinger, Guy C. Corriero, Deborah Dancy, Fukuko Harris, Carol McMahon, Patricia Miranda, Elisa Soliven, Martha Tuttle, Alan Wiener and Mie Yim.
