Rep. Harding Supports Republican Effort to Correct DMV Inefficiencies

Lawmakers submit letter to DMV Commissioner

State Representative Stephen Harding (R-107) has announced his support for fellow lawmakers Rep. Tom O’Dea and Sen. Toni Boucher – both Ranking Members of the Transportation Committee – regarding their study of the efficiency of the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles.

The lawmakers submitted a letter to DMV Commissioner Andres Ayala, Jr. in October with a list of common questions intended to address issues highlighted by the public, and allow the agency to address members of the legislature about the ways in which the General Assembly can assist the DMV.

Questions posed in the letter inquire about wait times, computer upgrades, online systems, staff training, AAA collaboration, IT services, and telephone services.

“I have received countless inquiries from constituents regarding service issues at our local DMV offices,” said Rep. Harding. “No one should have to plan to spend hours of their day at the DMV to make routine transactions like renewing a license. I hope the Commissioner responds to my colleagues in a timely manner so that we may aid the public in avoiding the typical anxieties associated with dealing with the DMV. I look forward to addressing this issue further on behalf of my constituents.”
