Rep. Harding Backs Bills that Make CT Friendlier for Businesses and Healthcare Patients

HARTFORD –State Rep. Stephen Harding (R-107) this morning applauded the passage of two bills in the Senate that he co-sponsored in the House. These bills relate to issues regarding small businesses and public health.

The first, Senate Bill 302, is An Act Concerning the Impact of Proposed Regulations on Small Businesses. It will require the Office of Fiscal Analysis to estimate the number of businesses in the State of Connecticut that would be affected – particularly in regards to finances – by new business-related legislation. The purpose of this requirement is to provide more transparency for businesses in the legislative process.

As a side note, the bill will also make any business that is independently owned and operated, with 250 or fewer employees (as opposed to the current number of 75), be considered as a “small business;” allowing these businesses to receive critical funding.

The second, An Act Concerning Services for Individuals with Intellectual Disability, Senate Bill 294, expands patient eligibility for department funding and services, as well as provides necessary transparency and expedition to the program application process. This legislation will be crucial in ensuring that those with intellectual disabilities receive the assistance they deserve.

“With session coming to a close, we are all reminded of why we’re here at the Capitol:” said Rep. Harding. “To serve the people of our district because we care; because we want to make Connecticut and our community the best it can be. These initiatives are something to be proud of in this respect, as they address the every-day issues residents are facing in both their personal and professional lives. I hope that the governor sees the importance of these pieces of legislation as well, and signs them into law when they reach his desk.”

Both bills passed unanimously through the House and Senate. They now await a signature from the governor.
