Rep. Carter visits local non-profit, community-funded organizations in Danbury

DANBURYState Rep. Dan Carter (R-2) recently visited several local non-profit, community-funded organizations in Danbury to tour their facilities and learn more about their budgeting successes.

The Hopeline Pregnancy Resource Center, located on Rose Street, is largely staffed by volunteers who help members of the community make informed choices by providing pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, supporting their life decisions with counseling resources and referrals to community agencies, and offering parenting and healthy relationship skills education, material aid, adoption referrals and post-abortion care. Their mission is to offer hope through free services for those who find themselves at a crossroads. Most importantly, they do all of this without state funding.

After touring the Hopeline facility, Rep. Carter also visited the surrounding community-based non-profits:

  • Samaritan Health Center – A medical center that provides free, comprehensive pediatric care to children 18 years and younger who are underserved and uninsured.
  • Jericho Partnership Inc. – An organization that services those who are at-risk in the community of homelessness, dropping out of school or succumb to addiction.
  • Pathways Academy – A Christian all-boys private school that supports grades 6-8 through a safe and loving environment that promotes cognitive, spiritual, and emotional growth.
  • Young Life – A youth mentoring program.

These organizations – all located in an adjoining facility on Rose Street – provide the community with opportunities to sponsor a child, volunteer, donate funds and supplies or translate for needy children and students. Their partnerships with several faith-based coalitions and schools provides further support regarding their goals of guiding clients on their path and keeping them from homelessness or unemployment. Without state funding, they have made differences in the lives of countless residents by creating friendships, cultivating faith, and encouraging individuality – all vital social services that at the end of the day are completely priceless.

“I am in awe of the business model that these organizations create for our state and communities,” said Rep. Carter. “Their directors have been very successful in hosting fundraisers and collaborating with various local and national organizations, and employing volunteers. They have keen groups of staff who are dedicated to ensuring that young women and men have support regarding life decisions and learning.”

“These are such great resources for residents of the Danbury community, and I hope to see them continue to receive the support they need to serve our future generation of entrepreneurs, professionals and community members,” added Rep. Carter.
